Tips On How To Buy A Used ATV
Not all of us are able to afford a new 2007 ATV with all the bells and whistles. Much like cars or motorcycles or any large vehicle for recreation or pleasure, we very often need to start out with buying used. Of course there’s no problem with purchasing a used car, bike or ATV. In case you are going to buy used, you need to know what to look for, particularly with a vehicle such as an ATV where you know that there's a chance the previous owner will often have given the ATV some serious abuse around the trails. Before you start to cruise the classifieds you have a couple of decisions to make. Who is the ATV for? An ATV for an adult is manufactured differently than one made for a kid. Are you wanting the ATV for purely recreational purposes? Would you like to race or simply enjoy some leisurely off-roading with the family? Would you like to operate the ATV as a utility vehicle?
The right spot to start for those who have never purchased an ATV before could well be at the local dealership. You may not be able to afford one off the showroom floor, but you can certainly still go look and pick the dealer’s brain for information. At the dealership you can ‘test’ the various classes of ATVs. Sit on some to see how they fit, each ATV will be different and you might find that some tend to be more comfortable than others. Even when you are trying newer models, there really won’t be an excessive amount of a difference between them and the older versions.
After getting all the information you are able to from the dealership, you'll have some idea of what make and model you'll be looking for in a used ATV. While you’re at the dealership also check to see if they have a bulletin board for other ATV resources. Sometimes if you contact a club or other organization they might be able to put you in touch with people who have ATV’s to sell. Classified ads and specialized classified magazines like you see for cars or motorcycles are likewise a valuable resource. And of course the number one source for finding used vehicles is the internet. Places like eBay will no doubt have a lot to offer, the only issue with this is, unless the seller is in your area, you have no option to view the ATV close up.
Once you locate the ATV you want to purchase, definitely head over to check it out personally. When you see the ATV the very first time, make note of the condition of the plastic on the fenders. The general outward appearance of the ATV provides you with a pretty good clue as to how hard the previous owner treated the vehicle. If the fenders or other plastic parts are cracked and ruined you can actually bet that you’re going to have to replace them and replacement parts and accessories can be very expensive. You need to decide how much you're willing to invest in refurbishing the ATV if parts do need replacing. Check the condition of the seat for any rips or tears. Again, a ripped seat isn’t a big deal and it is totally replaceable, but do you want to spend the extra money to do that?
The next part of the inspection will require some work. You will want to lift the front end of the ATV up to inspect the undercarriage. With the ATV lifted, closely inspect the frame for any damage. Make sure there are no cracks or dents in the frame or any of the connecting welds Note any areas that might have rust and check them for cracks too. Check the handlebars for any loose play and do the same to each wheel. Loose wheels could indicate worn wheel bearings or damaged ball joints. Oil, breaks and the air filter and air box should likewise be checked. Ask the owner if they have any records regarding oil changes and maintenance. Some owners might have an owner’s manual that they can pass onto you. Take the ATV for a test drive too if you can to determine how it handles.
Lastly, if a title is necessary in your state ask the owner if they have the title and if it's clear. Most states require a bill of sale with the VIN (vehicle identification number) on it. Whether your state requires a bill of sale or not, it is always a good idea to have one to protect both you and the former owner incase a dispute crops up. Remember that in most cases you are buying the ATV “as is”, which means the previous owner is not responsible for any problems you might find with the vehicle after you have purchased it and brought it home.

Honda Matures in the Industry
The Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC earlier announced a new $64.5 million expansion project. The project of the Japanese auto manufacturer, which is set to begin on May 1, is expected to create 20 new jobs.
The HMA’s new project also include 27,000 square feet of extra building space that will house and operate a steel banking facility alongside the present steel stamping lines. The project also covers the multi-million dollar expansion to continuously enhance Honda’s annual vehicle turnaround to more than 300,000 units.
“The addition of a steel banking facility will offer improved efficiency in costs, quality and delivery for our Alabama manufacturing operations,” said Mark Morrison, the manager of corporate affairs and communication for the HMA. “We believe the investment and additional employment offered by this new venture also will benefit our customers and the community.”
With a motion from the District 1 Commissioner Ed Lackey and a second from the District 5 Commissioner John Carter, the commission approved the tax abatement of the company for sales, use, and property taxes. Land abatements will last over a period of a decade for each piece of property and start on a property-by-property basis.
As estimated by experts, Honda will receive a $167,700 break from the annual amount of non-educational ad valorem taxes and $1,710,000 which has been abated from estimated construction-related transaction taxes.
The agreement stated that Honda and Talladega County each agree to pay its own costs and expenses related to the abatement. The county will not charge HMA a fee to secure the abatements and the company will continue to be primarily liable for the agreement to be carried out as stated. “Anything that will bring more jobs in for the county is a wonderful project,” said Commissioner Jimmy Roberson. “The abatements will go away, but those jobs are here to stay.”
HMA, at present, employs over 4,500 associates. In the state of Alabama, the company has a total of $1.3 billion investment. Since October 2006, the company has shown plans for a $91 million additional investment and this project will bring the manufacturing company to well over the $100 million mark.

But it is also famed in the manufacture of trucks, scooters, jets and jet engines, robots, ATV, water craft, electrical generators, lawn and garden equipment, marine engines, and aeronautical and other mobile technologies. The automaker, headquartered in Tokyo, produces state-of-the-art auto parts accessories like the Honda fender, engines, radiator, filter, and more.
